MOUNTAIN HUB DISTILLERS

@ Hilton Munich Airport
The Mountain Hub Distillers is an alliance between Mountain Hub and the airport-based Airbräu brewery. Here, unique products in a wide variety of variations are lovingly handcrafted from the basic ingredient of beer.
No! Or rather yes – you just can’t call it ‘gin’! But they do have one thing in common: the best quality wheat and pure water. In order to save 5,300 litres of Airbräu beer from being wasted during lockdown, processing it using gin-making techniques was considered a legitimate cause. And so something completely new was created: the spirits of Mountain Hub Distillers.
Sometimes there are situations which turn even the best sustainability concepts upside down. Like the 2020 lockdown. One challenge this presented for the catering industry was having to save food from going to waste at short notice.
Master brewer René Jacobsen of the Airbräu brewery at Munich airport was seeking a solution to save the high-quality beer he had produced. And what could make more sense than to transform it into strong beer distillates? Teaming up as part of a collaborative process, passion and dedication were applied to convert 4,000 litres of Airbräu lager beer and 1,300 liters of strong beer were turned into three in-house beer spirits in cooperation made by the Mountain Hub Distillers.
Be surprised and become a fan: the spirits are a limited edition. Each one was created through an individual process to produce the most diverse and unique flavors.
4,000 litres of exquisite Airbräu beer made their way to Langenpreising to the Edelobstbrennerei Huber distillery where it was distilled using gin-making techniques. All refined with high-quality botanicals and then distilled again. This unique fine brandy – the Infused Bierbrand – is then bottled by hand, ready for sampling. You can try it for yourself at the Mountain Hub Restaurants, at the bar of the Hilton Munich Airport or at the Airbräu brewery at Munich airport. The limited edition distillate comes in bottles of 500 ml and can also be purchased to enjoy at home or as an exclusive souvenir of your trip to Munich.
In 2022 the Infused Beer Spirit was awarded with a silver medal by Meininger’s International Spirits Award in the category “Spirits from beer”. He has mastered the strict guidelines of the examiners very well. The two new beer brandies “Oaked” and “Pure” fully convinced the jury in 2024 and each received a gold medal at the Meinigers International Spirits Award.
Mountain Hub stands for regionality and the culinary diversity of the Alpine region. And of course, the same holds true for Distillers. Selected botanicals such as juniper, spruce needles, bloodroot and pine shoots are adapted to one another and form the basis for this unique flavour. This configuration gave rise to a spirit, the likes of which have never been seen before.
Whether straight or with tonic, the Infused Beer Spirit impresses with its unique character, winning over both gin connoisseurs and newcomers alike.
In addition to the Airbräu lager beer, there were also 1,300 liters of Aviator strong beer in the tanks of the Airbräu brewery. 500 liters of this was distilled five times and stored in Schwangau for 28 months to mature, creating a unique and intense flavor. Due to the long aging period and repeated distillation of the beer, this beer spirit has a distinctive character.
SO CLOSE TO THE ANGELS. The other 800 liters of it were distilled in Schwangau and bottled in a French oak barrel with bourbon coating. This barrel rested for 28 months on the Tegelberg at an altitude of 1,700 meters with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle. The harsh mountain climate created a characteristic, intense beer spirit with a unique taste. Since the Angels Share on the Tegelberg is very high, our spirit was stored there to create a strong and aromatic flavor.
